Avant-Garde Studio in Phoenix was the mastermind behind our floral design at the wedding
Today is the 6th edition of our “Wedding Recap” series. Today’s feature is all about the floral design! We used Jill Murphey at Avant-Garde Studio in downtown Phoenix for our ceremony and reception florals. Avant-Garde is a specialty floral studio in Phoenix that emphasizes the design and execution of an event on a comprehensive level. They came highly recommended by Rhonda, our planner, based on our vision for the wedding. It was important to me to choose a studio whose approach to the flowers came from an overall design standpoint and not just the flowers themselves. They were a perfect fit!
We initially met with Jill and her team in August on one of our first planning trips and instantly clicked. I towed along my binder full of all my “inspiration” photos and samples of all the colors I wanted to incorporate into my wedding decor. Talking with Jill about my ideas as well as going through look books of flower varieties, Pantone swatches, and browsing the studio really helped pull together my vision.
Bright, bold color! White flowers were off limits for me. I wanted to see a variety of plums and deep purples and bright fuchsia pinks to round out my color palette for my flowers. Since the wedding took place in the spring I was able to use Peonies and Tulips along with Calla Lilies and Dahlias in the arrangements. Although we did use Roses here and there to structure the vessels (they also held up the best in the Arizona heat), I emphasized the texture and the range of color with the variety of flowers in the mix. I wanted the centerpieces and the floral elements to be original and unexpected for our wedding guests.
Our initial meeting at the design studio of Avant-Garde was a round table of color swatches, floral images, inspiration photos – definitely a favorite part of the wedding planning process!
