Dave and I attended a wedding this past weekend in Essex, Connecticut that was so cute I had to share some pics! The tiny church sat on a hilltop in the charming town of Essex, Connecticut which is about 110 miles northeast of New York City while the reception took place under a tent on the waterfront at the Essex Yacht Club alongside the Connecticut River. This bride did an AMAZING job of using cohesive visual elements to tie all the elements of her wedding style together!
Utilizing a few well chosen colors, symbols or design schemes throughout your paper suite and wedding decor is the easiest and sometimes the simplest way to make your celebration really stand out!
A nautical compass, thick navy and white stripes, and bold lettering throughout the paper suite all worked seamlessly to make this wedding really pop! The nautical compass element first appeared on the Save-the-Date card and was repeated throughout the invitation suite and on the back of the ceremony program. It reappeared on the corner of the escort cards for seating guests and topped the favor box as a “Thank You” sticker for everyone who attended the reception to collect treats in. The groom’s tie was striped with thick navy blue and white bands which matched the ribbon wrapping the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony. Then the tabletops under the reception tent all featured the identical navy and white striped ribbon wrapping the vases of the floral centerpieces as well as the menu cards on each place setting. The strong typography used on the all of the pre-wedding stationery was repeated on the reception dinner menu heading as well. Little touches like these are often overlooked but when used in the right ways pull everything together beautifully! This wedding was a perfect example!
Strong Lettering on the Save-the-Date and the Nautical Compass set the tone right away for the celebration to come!
Another hot trend right now – tiered mini cupcakes replacing traditional wedding cake – this one looked great next to the sweets table!
